Depression

What are the types of depression treatment?

  • Counseling:
Counseling plays a central role in treating depression, helping individuals understand their feelings and develop effective coping mechanisms. Available counseling options include:

    • CBT therapy – is a type of talk therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress, such as depression or anxiety. The goal of CBT is to help individuals recognize distorted or unhelpful thoughts and replace them with more realistic, positive ones. It is based on the idea that how we think, feel, and behave are interconnected, and changing negative thinking patterns can lead to changes in mood and behavior.
    • EMDR therapy – is a type of psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories and distressing experiences. It is especially effective for people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it can also be used to treat anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges related to trauma.
  • Medication Management:
Antidepressants are commonly prescribed to help balance brain chemicals and improve mood. The treatment team works closely with patients to find the right medication and dosage that provides the most effective relief from symptoms.
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS):
TMS therapy is available for patients who don’t respond well to traditional treatments like medication and counseling. It uses electromagnetic fields to stimulate specific areas of the brain that regulate mood, offering relief for those with treatment-resistant depression.
  • Spravato:
Spravato, a nasal spray containing ketamine, is an advanced treatment for depression. It is typically used when other treatments have been ineffective and targets different brain receptors, offering relief for individuals with treatment-resistant depression.
